Millcreek is Salt Lake County's newest city, officially incorporated on December 28, 2016, after decades as an unincorporated county area. With 63,000-plus residents, it is the largest city by population in this stretch of the east bench. The housing stock is overwhelmingly single-family, ranging from 1950s and 1960s ranch homes in Canyon Rim and East Millcreek to executive-level estates on the NW slopes of Mount Olympus in Olympus Cove and Olympus Hills. Millcreek Common (1354 E Chambers Avenue / 3330 South 1300 East) is the city's purpose-built civic and recreational hub. Phase 1 is fully open with an 11,725-square-foot outdoor ice ribbon (skating in winter, roller skating in warm months), Utah's tallest outdoor climbing wall at 65 feet, a splash pad, indoor Public Market with local vendors, and a Sunday Bazaar running seasonally. Millcreek City Hall opened there in November 2023. Phase 2, with a 19-hole mini-golf course, expanded skating amenities, and 135 new trees, broke ground May 2025 and targets a spring 2027 completion. Old Mill Golf Course at 6080 South Wasatch Blvd, built on a former gravel pit at the base of Mount Olympus, is an 18-hole public course and the most neighborhood-adjacent course for the eastern foothills.
Getting Around
Downtown SLC is roughly 12 minutes by car from the city center; the airport is 14 to 19 minutes. The city interior and East Millcreek are primarily car-dependent for daily commuting—no TRAX serves the interior. The Millcreek TRAX station (Blue and Red Lines) sits on the western city edge near 3900 South and State Street. UTA Route 39 serves the 3900 South corridor through Mount Olympus and Olympus Cove with 15-minute peak-frequency bus service. Solitude and Brighton in Big Cottonwood Canyon are 20 to 30 minutes away, Snowbird and Alta in Little Cottonwood Canyon about 25 to 35 minutes, and Park City via I-80 Parley's Canyon runs 30 to 45 minutes.

For most of the 20th century, Millcreek was an unincorporated county area with no mayor, no city hall, and no town square. Since incorporation in 2016, the city has moved fast. Millcreek Common is the anchor—an outdoor civic campus featuring Utah's tallest outdoor climbing wall (65 feet) and the nation's largest dry-tooling wall, a winter ice ribbon, a splash pad, and a weekly market. City Hall opened on the same site in November 2023. New multifamily construction is rising near the Highland Drive corridor adjacent to Millcreek Common, adding for-sale townhomes and condos to a city historically dominated by single-family resale.
