The Heber Valley is defined by water, open space, and year-round outdoor activity, and Midway sits at the center of it. Deer Creek Reservoir, five to ten minutes south, is the valley's sailing and windsurfing destination. Jordanelle Reservoir, about 15 minutes northeast, draws paddleboarders and motorboaters. The Heber Valley Historic Railroad—the "Heber Creeper"—runs steam and diesel excursions through Provo Canyon and is five to eight minutes from Midway's main street. Wasatch Mountain State Park borders the town to the north and west, offering more than 100 miles of hiking and mountain-biking trails and a popular 27-hole public golf course. Midway's Swiss main street carries local cafes, bakeries, and boutique shops year-round, with the town's character peaking during the Swiss Days festival each late August and early September.

Midway is about 22 miles from Park City's Historic Main Street—a 25 to 30 minute drive via the Wasatch Mountain State Park scenic route or US-40 through Heber City. Deer Valley Resort is approximately 25 to 30 minutes; Deer Valley East Village is 20 to 25 minutes. Park City Mountain Resort is 27 to 32 minutes. Sundance Mountain Resort is roughly 30 to 35 minutes via Provo Canyon on US-189. Salt Lake City International Airport is approximately 55 to 65 minutes via US-40 and I-80. Heber City, the valley's commercial and dining hub, is five to eight minutes east. Soldier Hollow is about five minutes away. There is no public transit serving Midway; a car is required for daily life.
Swiss Heritage & Soldier Hollow
Midway's "Little Switzerland" identity is not a marketing invention. Swiss and German immigrant families arrived in the 1860s and 1870s, and their influence shaped the town's architecture, dairy culture, and festivals. The Kohler family dairy has operated continuously since 1929. The Swiss Days festival, held each late August and early September, draws more than 100,000 attendees and is consistently ranked one of the two largest festivals in Utah. Homestead Crater is among Midway's most distinctive features: a 55-foot-tall beehive-shaped limestone dome enclosing a 65-foot-deep pool that maintains a constant 90 to 95°F year-round, open for swimming, snorkeling, and certified scuba diving through Homestead Resort. Soldier Hollow, approximately five minutes from Midway's main street, hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics biathlon, Nordic combined, and cross-country skiing events, and today operates 20-plus miles of groomed Nordic trails and two 18-hole public golf courses.
Schools
Midway is served by the Wasatch County School District. Elementary school students in most of Midway attend Midway Elementary. Middle school students are assigned to Rocky Mountain Middle School or Timpanogos Middle School, both located in Heber City. High school students attend Wasatch High School in Heber City. A second comprehensive high school, Deer Creek High, is scheduled to open in August 2026. School assignment varies by address; confirm current boundaries with the Wasatch County School District.

Midway and Heber City are neighboring towns on the Heber Valley floor, about five to eight minutes apart by car. Midway is the smaller Swiss-heritage village—Homestead and Zermatt resorts, established cottages, and a more defined character—typically carrying a higher median price than Heber City and offering fewer new-construction phases. Heber City is the larger commercial hub with the most active new-construction market in the valley, the widest inventory selection, and a lower median.
Midway is in Wasatch County, not Summit County. Wasatch County carries generally lower property-tax rates than Summit County or Park City proper, and the Wasatch County School District serves the area. Charleston, the unincorporated sub-area south of Midway toward Deer Creek Reservoir, is also in Wasatch County, governed by county rather than Midway City ordinances.
The Homestead Golf Club is undergoing a complete redesign by architect John Fought, with new greens, revised bunkering, a double green, and an elevated clubhouse featuring golf simulators. The course is closed during construction and is scheduled to reopen in summer 2027. In the meantime, Soldier Hollow Golf Course and Wasatch Mountain State Park Golf Course provide public golf alternatives.
