Draper

About the area

Draper sits at the southeast corner of the Salt Lake Valley where the Wasatch Mountains and Traverse Ridge converge—giving it direct foothill access that few Salt Lake County cities can match. It suits buyers who want a mountain-adjacent lifestyle without leaving the metro: tech workers drawn by eBay, HealthEquity, and 1-800 Contacts (with Silicon Slopes/Lehi just 10 to 15 minutes south), trail-obsessed mountain bikers and hikers, golf-course neighborhood buyers in South Mountain, and first-time buyers seeking TRAX-accessible townhomes near transit.

Draper

Living in Draper

Amenities & Lifestyle

Draper has more trail mileage and open space than any other city on the Wasatch Front—150+ miles of trails across 5,000 acres in the Corner Canyon trail system, with routes suited to mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, and running year-round. The Jacobs Ladder descent drops roughly 2,000 vertical feet over 4 miles; the Levitate Trail is a purpose-built jump trail; the Coyote Foot Path Loop is beginner-friendly. The Draper Bike Park adds a pump track, skills area, and jump loops open March through November. Off the trails, the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium is a major regional attraction opened in 2014. The Point of the Mountain ridge is a nationally recognized paragliding and hang-gliding site. IKEA—Utah's first, opened in Draper—anchors the retail corridor along I-15, and the Draper Amphitheater hosts summer events.

Getting Around

Two TRAX Blue Line stations—Draper Town Center and Kimball's Lane—connect Draper to downtown SLC in roughly 56 minutes by rail. A FrontRunner commuter rail station on the west side adds a second transit option. Downtown SLC is about 25 minutes by car via I-15; the airport is 25 to 30 minutes. Silicon Slopes campuses in Lehi are 10 to 15 minutes south. The I-15 Point of the Mountain corridor experiences peak-hour congestion; TRAX and FrontRunner are meaningful alternatives.

Silicon Slopes South Anchor & Corner Canyon

Draper occupies a unique dual role in the Silicon Slopes ecosystem: it is both a tech campus address and the gateway to the Wasatch Mountains. eBay, HealthEquity (headquarters), and 1-800 Contacts (headquarters) are among more than 1,000 employers based in Draper. The broader Silicon Slopes corridor to the south—Lehi, American Fork, Pleasant Grove—is 10 to 15 minutes down I-15. Simultaneously, Corner Canyon gives Draper 5,000 acres of trail-accessible open space literally adjacent to residential neighborhoods, with routes overlooking both the Salt Lake Valley and Utah Valley from the same ridgeline.

Golf & Club

South Mountain Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course designed by David Graham and Gary Panks, operated by Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation, and opened in 1998. It plays 7,080 yards from the tips (rated 73.4/130) with mountain links-style terrain, 12 double-tiered greens, dramatic elevation changes, and five tee boxes. The course hosted the 1999 Utah Open and has been listed in Golf Digest's Top Places to Play.

Schools

Draper straddles the Salt Lake County/Utah County line, which determines school district assignment. The majority of Draper—the Salt Lake County side—is served by Canyons School District. Corner Canyon High School (opened 2013, ~2,451 students) is the Canyons SD high school. The smaller Utah County portion of Draper is served by Alpine School District, which splits into Aspen Peaks School District effective July 1, 2027. Use the official address-lookup tools at canyonsdistrict.org and alpineschools.org to confirm district assignment for every property.

Draper Sub-Areas & Subdivisions

  • Historic Draper District— original townsite near Pioneer Road; lower elevation; older housing stock with small-town character.

Draper Real Estate FAQ

Draper's price range spans roughly mid-$400,000s for townhomes near TRAX transit to $1 million or more for foothill and custom homes in Corner Canyon and South Mountain. Established single-family neighborhoods generally run $700,000 to $1.1 million. The early-2026 median sold price ranged approximately $800,000 to $950,000 depending on source and timing. Price per square foot is roughly $249.

Downtown Salt Lake City is approximately 25 minutes north of Draper via I-15 in off-peak traffic. Salt Lake City International Airport is about 25 to 30 minutes. Silicon Slopes tech campuses in Lehi are 10 to 15 minutes south on I-15, making Draper one of the few Salt Lake County cities with a short commute to both downtown SLC and the Utah County tech corridor.

Draper's housing spans TRAX-adjacent townhomes, established single-family subdivisions, luxury foothill estates, and new construction on the west side near Highway 154. Builders are active with townhome communities near the Traverse Mountain foothills. Resale homes dominate the mid-range market; luxury estates concentrate in Corner Canyon and South Mountain.

Both cities are in the southeast Salt Lake Valley with Canyons School District coverage on much of their footprints, but Draper sits farther south with a higher foothill elevation, larger lot options, the Corner Canyon trail system, and South Mountain Golf Club. Sandy is closer to downtown SLC and more established. Draper's dual-county status adds a school-district complexity Sandy does not have.
